In an effort to more solidly incorporate disability into the concept of diversity in the workplace, DiversityJobFairs.com invited The Sierra Group, to kick off their Employer Breakfast at the recent Diversity Job Fairs in both King of Prussia and Philadelphia, PA on June 21 and June 22.

Janet D. Fiore, CEO, The Sierra Group, Inc., sat on the task force with the Senate Help Committee to help write this legislation.

Janet Fiore kicked off the 4th Annual Brain Injury Association's Pennsylvania conference in Harrisburg on Monday June 28th, addressing approximately 300 conference participants regarding the ever changing role of Technology as a tool to increase employment opportunities for people with brain injury.
Fiore states, "I was honored to be approached by President, Patricia Murphy to serve in this role along with my esteemed colleague, George Ackerman, Program Director Special Education at Kent State University."
"What really excites me are the plans that George has laid out for us to work throughout the year with our committee, and Patricia Leahy, the association's director of Governmental affairs to gain a stronger voice, via more membership involvement. Watch for more news as we strengthen the volume, clarify the details through targeted constituent communications to Congress regarding funding for education, training, accommodating and job placement for people with disabilities."

On April 9, 2005 in Harrisburg, PA, Janet Fiore, CEO of The Sierra Group, received the Mary E. Switzer award from the Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association. This award honors Janet for her distinguished service in the field of rehabilitation and her significant contributions to legislative issues.

"Rehabilitation & Technology - Acting Outside the Box," by Janet Fiore, CEO of The Sierra Group and Greg Johnson, president of Susquehanna Rehabilitation.
Janet Fiore, CEO of The Sierra Group, Inc. will address the 29th Annual Eastern Claims Conference on Monday, the 28th of February at 10:15-11:45. The conference is designed to serve a broad audience of professionals devoted to Life, Disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment and Health Claims Management.
Session attendees will learn methodology and techniques to increase return to work methods by actively utilizing cutting edge technology. From repetitive stress injuries, to stroke, mental illness or multiple severe disabilities; case scenarios will identify best practices for combined approaches to vocational rehabilitation. Participants will receive an entry level 'How To' guide that will aid in adding rehabilitation technology to traditional case management and claims handling.The 'How To' guide will include:
- How to identify the need for high or low-tech 'solution'
- How to obtain the 'right device'
- How to add the technology to the vocational return to work plan.

In the article, Michael Fiore, Rehabilitation Engineer, The Sierra Group, Inc., writes: "In today's technology driven workforce, assistive technology is a vital tool in employment. Roadblocks exist when compatibility issues arise. One of the practical benefits of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is forcing the issue of 'electronic curb cuts' or universal access to information technology (IT) suppliers thereby benefiting assistive technology users."

Are You 508 Compliant?
On March 11, 2004 The Sierra Group gave insight into what Section 508 means to you, your company, and your clients with examples that bring these legal standards to life for the training professional who uses information technology as a means of delivery.
The Governor's Committee on Employment with Disabilities (GCEPD) wishes to recognize the accomplishments of Pennsylvania youth with disabilities with a Governor's Committee Youth Leadership Award. This award will be presented at the 51st Annual Conference this Fall.
They are seeking candidates who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential in:

- Extra Curricular Activities
- Community Service
- Work or Vocational Experience
