MENTORING EVENT IN PHILADELPHIA

On 2/20/08 The Sierra Group is joining with AIG to host a Mentoring Event for Job Seekers with Disabilities. The focus of the event will be matching Job Seekers who are interested in business careers to current AIG employees who are performing positions where the job duties are the same or similar to the Job Seeker’s goals. The event will run from 11 AM through the afternoon, and will allow the Job Seekers to have a virtual experience of doing the job -- plus good opportunity to:

  • ask probing questions regarding required job duties
  • present their skills and functional limitations in a comfortable environment, where they will get real world feedback and coaching on how to further enhance their presentation
  • explore what barriers they might experience in doing the job, and brainstorm with Sierra regarding appropriate adjustments and accommodations before meeting with an employer for a formal interview
  • establish networking contacts with their event mentors, as well as establishing themselves as potential candidates for future positions with AIG

How to Participate!

Mentoring opportunities are limited, so Job Seekers will need to apply for the opportunity of working with an AIG Mentor Job Seekers can apply by using the online application form that must be submitted by the 2/4/08 deadline.  Applications should clearly indicate if the Job Seeker will need an accommodation. Individuals selected to participate in the event will be notified by 2/11/08.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 2/20/08 at AIG’s Center City location, Philadelphia, PA) starting at 11 AM. Business attire required, and a lite lunch will be provided. Selected Job Seekers will be contacted to confirm their participation and to provide directions.
